Construction started on 5 January 2011 and it is expected to be operational by 2017 by the first turbine put into operation in 2016.[1][2] The ground clearance works and relocation of people was completed by September 2010.[3]
The power station will have three turbines with a capacity of 400 MW each.[1] The total capacity will be 1,200 MW. When constructed, it will be the third largest hydroelectric power station in Vietnam.[1][2] It is expected to cost US$1.8 billion.[4]
